Meaning: “I bow to Shiva” — the supreme consciousness that resides within each one of us.
Significance: This is one of the most powerful mantras in Sanatana Dharma, known as the Panchakshara (five-syllable) mantra. Each syllable — Na, Ma, Shi, Va, Ya — represents the five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. Chanting this mantra purifies the mind, dissolves ego, and connects the soul to the divine.
How to chant:
- Sit quietly, close your eyes
- Take a deep breath and chant Om Namah Shivaya 108 times
- Best chanted in the early morning or at sunset
The legend: This mantra appears in the Krishna Yajurveda in the hymn Sri Rudram. It is said that even hearing this mantra brings peace, and chanting it with devotion grants liberation (moksha).
“The mantra is not just words — it is a vibration that awakens the divine within.” 🙏
